Once your last leaf is raked, your attention inevitably turns indoors. A long winter lies ahead and you may find some of your indoor spaces are lacking. If your kitchen, bathroom, or basement needs an update or an overhaul, now is the time to start planning.
3 Reasons Why Fall Is the Perfect Time for Indoor Design:
More Options
Our designer, Courtney Wall, suggests you start your research for indoor projects now if you’d like to start construction in the early spring. You don’t want to rush the design process so you’ll have plenty of time to consider all of your options.
Dale Carnegie’s saying is accurate: “An hour of planning can save you 10 hours of doing.” If you take sufficient time in the design phase, you can consider alternative styles that procrastinators may miss. You can tweak your designs to fit your vision and budget perfectly. Our talented design team can show you exactly what the finished product will look like, so why not use these design deliverables to confirm that your vision will be reached? We have found that there’s higher customer satisfaction and fewer change orders for projects with an unrushed design phase.
Long Lead Times
Another reason to start early is due to industry-wide extended lead times for materials like cabinetry, plumbing, and lighting fixtures. (Thankfully, there are some materials, like countertops and tile, that are not as severely impacted.) For items with long lead times, plan early to ensure your materials arrive well ahead of when they are needed. Did you know we have a staging area at our offices where your materials are safely stored?
This is a dedicated area reserved for your project only; it’s one of the many advantages of using a design/build firm. Your designer works closely with your Construction Manager to ensure orders are made in a timely manner and that your materials are received well in advance. They follow up with any product delays to minimize project disruptions.
End-of-the-Year Sales
A fall start allows you to take advantage of end-of-the-year sales on materials. Several of our go-to tile and lighting vendors hold these sales, so why not take advantage while you can? Designs prepared now can result in orders placed over this sale period, which produces cost savings that can be applied elsewhere. Is fall the best time to prepare for all projects? It’s not ideal for your outdoor renovations, so if you have a deck in mind, share those ideas with us after the first of the year. But if you have an indoor project, let us know today so your project can be placed at the top of our queue once spring returns.
