Meet the Team: Sam Horan, Designer and Project Coordinator
Our newest employee, Sam Horan, is a designer with a mean set of math skills. He’s one of those lucky people who has both the left and right side of his brain firing on all cylinders.
What do math and design have in common you ask? Lots. Sam helps clients with their design selection and lays out the space so they can visualize the final look. A successful layout relies on good spatial reasoning and math skills, as does contract writing. With our fixed price contracts, it’s important that we account for all costs and get it right up front. Sam helps us do that.
In his role as Project Coordinator, Sam steps in after a contract is signed to purchase our clients’ selections and prep everything for production. We aim to have all fixtures, materials, and supplies ready to go before a job begins, as this helps to minimize delays and meet our project deadlines.
Sam attended Saint Lawrence University in Canton, New York, where he majored in math and nurtured his interest in construction and design. Between junior and senior years, Sam interned at a high-end design/build company, Foremost Builders, in West Lebanon, New Hampshire. After graduation, he returned there and worked as a designer and estimator for 2 ½ years.
Originally from Medfield, MA, he welcomed a move back home to be near family and friends. He sought out JM Construction because he was drawn to the professionalism that he observed in our business practices and experienced team members.
He appreciates the benefits that a quality design/build company brings to the table. Sam observes, “We create designs that meet the goals of our clients within their budget. We always keep their best interest in mind when handling everything on their behalf — a seamless project from start to finish.”
In his free time, Sam enjoys downhill skiing, biking, and woodworking. He is an “epic pass” skier who skis everywhere, as much as he can. In the warmer weather, he loves mountain biking on trails in the suburbs. Now that he’s living in Cambridge, he’s learning the skill of city biking (which he says is primarily pedestrian avoidance)!
He has a longstanding interest in woodworking. He escapes to his parents’ woodshop in New Hampshire to build products like a canoe, paddleboard, tables, cutting boards…you name it. Check out this beauty that he built:
When asked about his skills (beyond building quality hand-crafted canoes!) he says he keeps up with current trends and products to offer informed recommendations. He also has a good sense of style and cost, so he can make suggestions that fit a client’s goals and budget.
We’re thrilled to have someone with Sam Horan’s talent on our team and appreciate the contributions and hard work he brings to each and every job.
