More Useful Features for Your Custom Art Studio

When you’re designing your own custom art, it’s important to consider the different amenities you’ll want to appeal to your creative muse. We’ve discussed the topic before, but there are still so many more useful features you’ll want to consider for your art studio. As you begin the design/build process with JM Construction, put these features in your plans.

Ample Space for Creativity

Any artist, crafter or creative type in any medium knows that space is a must when it comes to art. Yes, you can make due in a tiny room, but if you’re building a custom art studio, dream big and go big!

Building a larger space allows you to have specific stations for your art process or have multiple projects going on at once. It also allows you to install more counter space and dedicated display space. After all, you want to be able to show off your finished creations, so why not install shelves or cases where you can set up your sculptures, paintings, and other art to inspire your next project?

Lots of Ventilation

Ventilation is an absolute must when it comes to an art studio. Many mediums use paint and other materials that give off fumes, which can get trapped in the room. These fumes can be unpleasant to breathe in at minimum and be hazardous to your health at their worst. That’s why you can’t skimp on ventilation, as it pulls out the fumes and brings in fresh, clean air.

For an extra touch, consider building a spray booth for applying primer or finishing seals. This way you can contain the fumes better and more easily vent them out. You can install a dedicated vent with more concentrated suction, plus things like a turntable and extra lighting so you can be sure every inch of a creation gets coated. This has the bonus of giving you a smaller space to clean as well.

Ventilation is also useful for removing excess humidity out of the art studio. Humidity can sometimes warp or damage paintings, ceramics, and other pieces. It certainly lengthens the drying time at least. So ventilation should be at the top of your list.

Multiple Outlets

Multiple electrical outlets may seem like a minor thing to consider for your art studio, but they’re really useful. Many art mediums these days, such as metalworking and woodcrafting, require power tools. Plus, you could need to plug in things like studio lights and other equipment for mediums like photography or still life painting. Then there’s your phone charger, or perhaps you’re adding a white noise machine so you can focus.

All of these need electrical outlets, and as anyone can tell you, there never seem to be enough in a room. Sure, you could put in power strips, but these can be hazardous and create clutter. Having multiple outlets installed throughout the studio from the beginning will save you a lot of grief in the long run and look nicer.

Your custom art studio is your haven of imagination and creativity. You deserve a studio that will provide you with the space, safety, and convenience needed to let your muse run free and create your best pieces of art.
