Key Design Trends: Wellesley Kitchen and Home Tour 2025

The Wellesley Kitchen and Home Tour is an annual fundraising event hosted by the Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club. It typically features a tour of six to seven homes in Wellesley, showcasing kitchens, other first-floor areas, and outdoor spaces. The event is a significant source of funds for the club, which uses the money to give back to the local community through grants and scholarships.

As a returning Pineapple Sponsor of the 2025 Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club Annual Kitchen and Home Tour, our JM Construction team members had the opportunity to tour five gorgeous homes. Our Design Manager, Jennifer Collins, outlined the tour’s top five design elements.

Flow and Connection

A seamless experience from the interior to the exterior is at the heart of thoughtful design. The moment one approaches a home through the interior rooms and expands into the outdoor spaces should be a cohesive experience. The architecture and landscaping work harmoniously to draw guests from the curb, while interior layouts are intentionally crafted to guide the eye and the body toward inviting outdoor spaces.

This intentional circulation fosters a sense of openness and cohesion, blurring the lines between the inside and outside, encouraging a lifestyle that embraces comfort and nature.

Fenestration and Light

The arrangement and proportioning of windows and doors are pivotal in shaping how a space feels, especially in homes with smaller footprints.

Strategically placed windows and doors maximize natural light and create visual continuity, making rooms feel larger and more expansive. These elements serve as both functional and aesthetic tools by framing views, enhancing ventilation, and contributing to the overall rhythm of the design.

Color

The color choices used bring a space’s personality into focus. The bold juxtaposition of deep, saturated hues against a backdrop of soft neutrals creates dynamic contrast and visual interest. This approach allows for expressive moments without overwhelming the senses, offering a balanced palette that feels modern and timeless.

Wood Appreciation

This year’s Wellesley Kitchen and Home Tour’s appreciation of wood was a nod to both craftsmanship and natural beauty. Materials like oak, walnut, and teak are celebrated for their rich tones and distinctive grain patterns, adding warmth and authenticity to interiors. Whether used in flooring, cabinetry, or accent pieces, these woods ground the design and introduce a tactile, organic element that resonates with a sense of permanence and quality.

Textures & Textiles

This year’s tours highlighted textures and textiles to complete a space’s sensory experience. From the subtle weave of grasscloth wallpaper to the soft drape of linen curtains and the tactile intrigue of cork, tile, and layered rugs, these materials invite touch and add depth. They create an engaging and layered feel that enhances comfort while showcasing a refined attention to detail.

We are proud to have returned for this local fundraising event and enjoy exploring the latest trends in home design build. Learn more about this Wellesley Hill Junior Women’s Club event.
