Aging Bathrooms Get a Refresh
Project Overview
The homeowners of this 1950s Colonial home, nestled in the prestigious Dana Hall neighborhood of Wellesley, have updated it for modern living over the years. At the top of the stairs to the second floor are twin bathrooms used primarily by daughters who are in college and also houseguests. Our client decided the bathrooms were showing their age and in need of modernization.
The goal of this “bookend bathroom” remodel was to give the homeowners high-end, hotel-like finishes from floor to ceiling that complemented the immaculate design throughout the rest of the home.
With seamless design and luxurious finishes—including marble sinks, polished nickel fixtures, and custom limewash plaster walls—these two bathrooms have been transformed into visual showpieces within an already exquisite residence.
The Results
This remodel demonstrates how investing in a thoughtful design combined with high-end selections and premium quality craftsmanship can significantly elevate a space. We began by replacing one of the bathtubs with a shower, complete with custom basketweave mosaic floor tile and Vermont Danby honed marble wall tile sourced from Waterworks. A local artisan applied a limewash plaster finish to the walls and ceilings, creating a distinct and elegant focal point.
Carrera marble slabs were used to craft the stone vessel console sinks, which rest on custom polished nickel vanity legs by Palmer Industries. Additional design details include generous, matching shower and sink niches, as well as expansive 3-foot by 4-foot mirrors with integrated LED lighting, equipped with convenient on glass Kelvin adjustable dimmable controls—offering both style and function for daily routines.
Now, these petite but well appointed bathrooms align perfectly with the residence’s overall aesthetic while adding a refined, modern touch to the spaces that will undoubtedly offer our Wellesley homeowners timeless appeal and increased home value.
